It is possible to notarize any document, digitally created or scanned, such as contracts, deeds, orders and invoices. It’s also possible to notarize images such as logos and photographs, videos of any size and format and any other file that we have on our PCs or in the Cloud.

The notarization process is used to give any document the guarantee of unchangeability and give it a certain date and paternity.

When we notarize, we write the fingerprint of our document (hash) inside the unchangeable database of the blockchain. From that moment on, the Blockchain becomes the “Digital Notary”, ready to guarantee and prove the originality, authorship and timestamp of our document.

In Italy, e.g. thanks to the integration with the Public Digital Identity System, the notarization process and the signing of the notarized documents takes place through the SPID system, which guarantees the identity of the registrant and signatories in a certain and third-party way with respect to the platform.

iuScribo uses the Blockchain, a distributed ledger technology (DLT), which guarantees the unchangeability of any stored record through the large-scale distribution of the transaction database. Once a transaction has been recorded (such as notarization) the database is automatically replicated on thousands of nodes, from that moment any unauthorized modification of the database would be overwritten by the dominant copy of the network, the one present in the majority of nodes.

The Hashing function is a cryptographic algorithm that allows you to “extract” from any digital object (document, photo, video, etc.), an alphanumeric code (fingerprint) that uniquely identifies it.

The Hashing function allows you to extract the fingerprint from a digital object but it is not possible to reconstruct the original digital document from this one.

The Hashing function is deterministic, i.e. it will always generate the same Hash (fingerprint) against the same document source. Every slightest variation of the original digital object, even a simple addition of an empty space, changes its Hash (fingerprint) forever.

When the notarization process start it’s possible to select on which Blockchain to notarize based on the importance of the document we are going to notarize. The most secure and widespread Blockchains obviously have a progressively higher notarization cost. It is even possible to notarize the same document on multiple Blockchains to ensure maximum security.

The validity of the notarization varies from state to state.

In Italy, e.g., the Simplifications Decree 2018 converted into law with Law 11 February 2019, n. 12 introduces the regulatory definition of Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLT) and smart contracts. The decree specifies that storing a computer document through DLT distributed ledger technologies produces the legal effects of an electronic time stamp compliant with the 910/2014 eIDAS European Regulation.

iuScribo’s use of Blockchain, part of DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology), guarantees the legal validity of electronic time stamping (specific document date) and immutability.

The authentication of the Notarization and any other digital signatures to the notarized document is guaranteed through integration with the AgiD SPID system.

For a digital document notarized in Blockchain to have legal value, it must be archived through a certified substitute storage system supported by iuScribo.
